The appeal was dismissed. Final: Russia not in the playoffs

by time news

The High Court of Sports this evening (Monday) rejected Russia’s appeal. Meaning: The team will not participate in the World Cup playoffs, when Poland will automatically advance and meet the winner between the Czech Republic and Sweden in the final.

As you may recall, last month, following the invasion of Ukraine, FIFA and UEFA decided to suspend all Russian teams and teams from international competitions. Spartak Moscow, who were due to play in the last 16 of the Europa League against Leipzig, were automatically dismissed after the court in Lausanne left the sentence unchanged.

Now the bitter news has reached the team that will not participate in the World Cup, four years after hosting it. The Russians have asked the tribunal to postpone the game against Poland to June. Despite the decision, Valerie Carpin’s team will leave as planned for a training camp in the country. Russia’s participation in the League of Nations and Euro 2024 qualifiers is also in doubt.
