Today, Sunday, in the Bahraini capital, Manama, the Ministerial Preparatory Meeting of the Economic and Social Council for the Arab Summit (33) was held.

According to what the Arab League website reported, one of the most prominent items presented to the Council is “the Arab emergency response plan to deal with the economic and humanitarian repercussions of the Israeli aggression.”

The meeting comes within the framework of what the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, described as an “Arab donation” for relief in the Gaza Strip.

During the meeting, the Council discussed mechanisms for activating an “emergency plan to deal with the economic and humanitarian repercussions of the Israeli aggression on Gaza,” prepared by Palestine, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the League and relevant specialized Arab organizations.

In his opening speech to the meeting, Aboul Gheit referred to “the difficult circumstances that the Arab nation is going through, in light of the continued Israeli aggression against Palestine.”

The Secretary of the Arab League said that “the past period was an Arab donation for Gaza relief,” but he stressed, at the same time, that “there is nothing to compensate the people of Gaza in this ordeal.”

Aboul Gheit stressed “the importance of seeking to alleviate the pain of the residents of the Gaza Strip,” noting that “the bridges of humanitarian aid coming from Arab countries to Gaza have not stopped,” and accusing Israel of “preventing the entry of aid and brandishing the weapon of starvation against the people of the Gaza Strip,” which requires “An emergency plan to deal with the repercussions of the war.”

The Economic and Social Council discussed a number of strategies in preparation for submitting them to Arab leaders, including strategies related to youth, peace and security, technical and vocational training and education, water security, and social development policies.

The League Council at the delegate level is scheduled to hold a meeting, tomorrow, Monday, to prepare the agenda for the political aspect of the Manama Summit, in preparation for submitting it to the Arab foreign ministers at their meeting next Tuesday.
