The Arab League participates in the Kazakhstan Conference of World Leaders and Traditional Religions

Cairo – INA A delegation from the League of Arab States, headed by Ambassador Samia Baybars, Director of the Dialogue of Civilizations Department, is participating in the work of the sixth session of the Conference of World Leaders and Traditional Religions, scheduled to be launched in Astana, the Republic of Kazakhstan, tomorrow, Wednesday, over two days, under the auspices of the President of the Republic, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Ambassador Baybars stressed “the importance of the conference, which is held every three years, as it aims to enhance dialogue between followers of different religions and combat negative transcontinental phenomena such as extremism and violence.” She pointed out that “this year’s conference will be held under the title (Religious Leaders for a Safe World), explaining that “Kazakhstan represents a model of peaceful coexistence between different sects and ethnicities, as it includes 130 ethnic sects.” She said in her statements before the university delegation left for Cairo, “The conference is being held with broad international participation, as religious symbols of various heavenly and non-heavenly religions participate in it, along with political leaders and a large number of representatives of regional and international organizations.” She continued, “The Arab League will present a working paper on extremism and the role of the religious institution in confronting it.” The most prominent themes of the conference are religions, geopolitical developments, new opportunities for reconciliation, religion and science, politicians and clerics, and confronting the phenomena of extremism and terrorism.
