At a press conference, Knesset members Ahmed Tibi and Ayman Odeh (Hadash-Ta’al) presented their demands for the meeting with the Prime Minister. The main demand presented by the two is the appointment of a projector for the eradication of violence and crime on behalf of the Prime Minister and not under the Minister of National Security and the establishment of a ministerial committee to deal with the issue of crime in Arab society. Tibi and Oda expressed their disbelief in Itamar Ben Gvir, the Minister of National Security.
Ben Gvir, for his part, announced that after assessing the current situation with Commissioner Kobi Shabtai, he decided to appoint a projector, five months after the termination of the previous projector Yoav Seglovic, who interrupted a focused effort to fight against criminal organizations within the framework of the ‘Safe Route’ emergency plan.
In the document of the demands of Hadash and Tal, there is also the demand for a new government decision to fight crime, the establishment of an authority to fight organized crime, a solution to the housing crisis, care for idle youth, and the fight against the gray market, a protection plan for the heads of authorities and the treatment and rehabilitation of the injured and the families of the murdered.
Odeh said that he does not have the privilege to refuse a meeting with the Prime Minister. “We are ready to turn over every stone in order to defeat crime.” In addition, he called on Ra’am members to join them and unite around a number of main demands in order to reach a united front for the meeting with the Prime Minister.
On the other hand, MK Mansour Abbas (RAM) demanded the full implementation of government resolutions 550 and 549 of the Bennett government (The five-year plan and the decision to eradicate violence). Abbas also said that The Prime Minister decided to boycott the meeting, because the government did not commit to implementing the decisions. In addition, Abbas demands the dismissal of Itamar Ben Gabir and the establishment of a ministerial committee to eradicate violence and a public council to accompany the projector’s work. In the council, as Ram demands, there will be representatives of the Arab society.
In the letter addressed by the Ra’am faction to the Prime Minister, the demands were also raised for the establishment of police stations in the Arab settlements, a fight against the phenomenon of sponsorship fees, a fight against the criminal organizations and their involvement in tenders, the rehabilitation of criminals and in-depth treatment of idle youths.
