In a speech read on her behalf by the Secretary General of the Ministry, during the 38th National Architects’ Day, Ms. El Mansouri highlighted the support and national solidarity of architects during the earthquake of September 8, as well as their mobilization on the ground and their support of local authorities, in search of appropriate steps.

“This mobilization highlighted the resilience and intrinsic solidarity of professionals to rebuild collectively,” she continued, emphasizing the need to chart a path towards sustainable reconstruction and a vision where post-seismic architecture will harmoniously embody the imperatives of resilience and security, while respecting the soul and history of places and communities.

In this context, she noted that National Architects’ Day is an opportunity to pay tribute to this profession, to the know-how of architects, to their creativity and to their commitment to serving society and the nation.

The minister recalled that the Al Haouz earthquake was “the catalyst for unconditional citizen mobilization and unprecedented solidarity, demonstrated throughout the Kingdom, and translated by local, regional and national initiatives, which emerged, bringing together volunteers, civil society organizations, businesses and institutions.”

And to continue that all the vital forces of the Nation have been deployed with exemplary coordination, to provide immediate assistance to the victims, and provide temporary shelters, medical care and food, in application of the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, through the mobilization of all means with the necessary speed and efficiency, in order to come to the aid of the families and citizens affected by the disaster and design an integrated and ambitious program for the reconstruction and general upgrading of the affected regions.

In this context, Ms. El Mansouri emphasized the measures and actions undertaken by her Department in the aftermath of the earthquake, including the establishment of a crisis and coordination unit, as well as a central “Housing and Urban Planning” Commission, jointly with the Ministry of the Interior, with a view to establishing a roadmap for the implementation of the Emergency Program for the rehousing of disaster victims and mobilization for census operations.

“Today, 4 months after the devastating disaster, we can confirm that the Reconstruction and Upgrading Programme is well underway,” she said.

Organized by the National Council of the Order of Architects (CNOA), in partnership with the Ministry of National Land Use Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Urban Policy, this 38th National Architects’ Day focuses on the theme “architects in an emergency: Integrated perspectives for sustainable reconstruction”.

The theme of this Day is part of the major reconstruction project of the areas affected by the earthquake of September 8, launched on the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
