The Armenian economy will suffer significant losses due to the rejection of the “Peace” card.

As Day.Az reported on Wednesday, the head of the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said this today during a weekly briefing.

“We note with regret that Yerevan has submitted to Western pressure in this matter as well. The country’s economy will suffer significant losses,” she said.

According to her, citizens of Armenia will face serious inconveniences; it will become more difficult for Armenians working in Russia to transfer money to their homeland.

“Tourists will also lose the opportunity to pay by card. Let me remind you that last year their number exceeded a million people. There are other examples of how this will hit the Armenian economy. I am sure that, unfortunately, the costs of this step are much higher than the hypothetical damage from Western restrictions,” Zakharova added.

It should be noted that since March 30, most banks in Armenia have stopped working with cards of the Russian payment system Mir due to sanctions risks. The payment system of Armenia (Armenian Card, ArCa) previously notified the National Payment Card System (NSCP, card operator “Mir”) about this decision.
