The Icon Room is the title of an exhibition that introduces one of the most interesting collections in the art collection of the Narva Museum. The exhibition presents icons of the 17th – early 20th centuries, which came to the museum in different ways. This is the customs confiscation of recent times, i.e. icons confiscated at the Narva customs point during an attempt to illegally export them across the border; icons evacuated from Narva to Rakvere during the Second World War, as well as shrines saved from destruction during the Soviet era.

A feature of the exposition is that outstanding examples of icon painting and rare iconography are side by side with icons of simple writing, made far from large icon painting centers. Such icons today are of particular value and are found, as a rule, in private collections. Cast icons and crosses made in Old Believer workshops and decorated with enamel, as well as a large double-sided altar cross, similar to which were found in Estonian Orthodox churches of the last quarter of the 19th century, deserve special attention.
The curators and designers of the exhibition are Tallinn artists, restorers and collectors Andrey and Orest Kormashov.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 28 June at the Art Gallery of the Narva Museum (Westervalli 21).

The first tours of the exhibition will take place on June 28 at 15.00 and 17.00.
