That the fifth night of riots from Saturday July 1 to Sunday July 2 was calmer than the previous ones in the country, following the death of Nahel M., only highlights the violence of the attack suffered by the mayor Les Républicains (LR), Vincent Jeanbrun, of L’Haÿ-les-Roses (Val-de-Marne), at his home. Around 1:30 a.m., while the elected official was sleeping at the town hall, a ram car was launched against his home and then a fire started.

“The vehicle was launched to burn the flag”, said the public prosecutor, in the morning of Sunday. An investigation has been opened by the Créteil prosecutor’s office for attempted murder. The mayor’s wife and two children aged 5 and 7 were in the house.

Hearing a noise and seeing flames, the woman and the two children fled through the garden at the back of the pavilion, according to the prosecutor. In her race to shelter the children, the wife “injured her tibia, it’s a pretty serious injury since it would be broken”, said Stéphane Hardouin. She was hospitalized, according to the mayor’s entourage.
