The National Construction Confederation (CNC), with the support of the National Federation of Self-Employed Workers Associations (ATA), announced this Thursday the creation of autonomous CNC, an association that was created with the priority objective of representing and defending the 400,000 self-employed workers of the sector before the different Public Administrations and national, regional or international institutions.

Autonomous CNC will be chaired by Rafael Sánchez Alcalá, who has also chaired Fadeco Contratistas, the Andalusian construction employers’ association, since mid-2018, the CNC and ATA have reported in a joint statement.

Construction brings together more than 12% of the self-employed in Spain and of all workers in the construction sector, 30% are self-employed.

This new association wants to promote the prevention of occupational risks, specific and adapted to the peculiarities of self-employed workers, since 95% of companies in the sector are SMEs or self-employed.

Contributions to the pension plan

As highlighted by the CNC and ATA, one of the main objectives of this association will be to facilitate the accession of the self-employed and their employees, if they have them, to the construction sector pension plan, which this February 1 It is integrated into the fund that VidaCaixa will manage and will begin to receive contributions from companies.

This new sectoral association for the self-employed also seeks to adapt and integrate the Professional Training (FP) in the field of self-employment. From the private sector, it is estimated that only for Intermediate and Higher Level VET students with training related to Building and Civil Works there will be 160,000 job opportunities until 2030, partly due to the stimulus of European funds.

For all these reasons, CNC will propose a collaboration agreement with the Construction Labor Foundation (FLC) to promote the qualification of self-employed workers in its more than 50 centers throughout Spain, where they would also receive training plans on occupational risk prevention.

CNC Autónomos has joined ATA so that all partners have access to activities of common interest and can benefit from the specialized training and information initiatives offered by the organization chaired by Lorenzo Amor, especially the drive for the digitalization of construction businesses, collaboration so that they can access European funds through KitDigital and access to simplified employment pension plans for the self-employed.

CNC Autónomos will have specialized advice and institutional support from ATA, and will be able to make use of the agreements and discounts that ATA maintains with different companies.

The president of CNC Autónomos, Rafael Sánchez Alcalá, has highlighted that this new association “andIt is a new example of the important cohesion that exists in the construction sector in Spainboth in the business environment and among economic and social agents”.

According to him president of the CNC, Pedro Fernández Alén, “the self-employed are an engine to boost activity and job creation in the construction sector.” Meanwhile, the ATA president, Lorenzo Amorhas highlighted, for its part, the common commitment of both organizations to work to improve the economic and professional situation of all self-employed construction workers.
