The Attorney General of the Nation, Margarita Cabello Blanco, indicated that the investigation being carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for an alleged case of domestic violence involving the Ambassador to FAO, Armando Benedetti Villaneda.

At a press conference, Cabello Blanco expressed his respect for the process carried out by the internal disciplinary control office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, he indicated that, depending on the development of the investigation, will evaluate whether it is necessary to intervene and assume the transfer of the evidence under its preferential authority.

A week ago, the Colombian Foreign Ministry announced the opening of a disciplinary process after receiving a complaint of gender violence against BenedettiIn an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its condemnation of any form of violence against women and assured that official mechanisms have been activated to investigate the incident reported by the Embassy in Spain. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that, once the results of the internal investigation have been obtained, it will act in accordance with the law.

For his part, Armando Benedetti has emphatically denied the accusations. “What has been said about an alleged assault is NOT true and does NOT correspond to the facts in Spain. The truth will be proven in the Spanish court. At this moment I am in the middle of a divorce process that responds to the private and family sphere and, for the sake of my children, I will be cautious,” declared the ambassador.
