Transportation is an aging sector where labor is scarce. In Spain, seven out of ten truck drivers are over 50 years old, and each year around 20,000 jobs remain unfilled. A serious problem in a country where 90% of goods are transported by road.
So it is not difficult to find job offers in the sector. On the ‘Empleate’ website of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), more than 350 truck driver vacancies are advertised, many of them with an indefinite contract, and which easily reach 30,000 euros per year in remuneration. And even more so when it comes to covering international routes.
Furthermore, they do not usually require special academic training. Most of them only ask for a primary education certificate.
As for professional requirements, almost all require a C1 or C driving license, with which you can drive vehicles with a minimum authorized mass of 3,500 kilos. And many require the C+E, which also allows you to tow a trailer of more than 750 kilos, and is commonly known as the trailer license.
The most outstanding job offers
– One of the best paid jobs is offered by Lesmarc Distribuciones, from Huarte (Navarra). Look for two workers to drive rigid truck and/or trailer. Experience of more than six months and C1+e driving license (trailer of more than 12,000 kilos) are required. The salary, between 28,000 and 36,000 euros per year. Registration until December 31.
– The Transluniko company from Guadalajara is looking for a trailer driver for national routes. A C1+e license is required with at least three years of experience in general cargo with a Tauliner trailer and a valid tachograph card. The salary is between 25,000 and 30,000 euros per year. Only a primary education certificate is required. The offer is valid until October 30.
– Transportes y Excavaciones Recio (Mojado, Valladolid) has four vacancies for bathtub, dumper, or concrete mixer truck drivers, with a salary of between 23,000 and 30,000 euros per year. A certificate of primary education and experience of more than two years are required. AS for the technical requirements, a C+E/C1+CAP card (certificate of professional attitude) is essential. Registration until November 5.
– The company Eventyclick Producciones y Eventos (Santander) needs a driver (C1+e license with a trailer of more than 12,000 kilos) “who is also capable of working as an assembler.” We are looking for a profile “with a responsible character, adaptable to different situations and with a desire to work.” No studies are necessary, but experience of more than two years is required. In salary, between 20,000 and 30,000 euros per year.
– Transportes y Servicios Marítimos Marín SL, (“serious and responsible company”) offers two vacancies for trailer drivers for “short trips in Galicia”. It pays between 21,000 and 30,000 euros per year, with immediate incorporation. The company, based in O Campiño (Pontevedra), ensures that “you always sleep at home.”
International job offers
As for offers that include international transportation, logically they tend to be better paid. Many exceed 35,000 euros.
– Company from Cella (Teruel) needs a “general merchandise” carrier to cover national and international routes (France and Italy) from the area of Teruel, Castellón, Valencia and Zaragoza. Primary studies and experience of more than six months are required. The annual salary is between 28,000 and 36,000 euros per year.
– Delta Division, a Valencian logistics company, is looking for an international driver, with main destination France. Candidates must demonstrate primary education, and have a C1+e driving license with a trailer of more than 12,000 kilos and CAP. They also ask for experience of more than two years. The salary ranges from 25,000 to 35,000 euros.
