Carabineros arrested a woman for her possible responsibility in the fire that affected the Marchigüe crescent, which forced the suspension of the traditional Harvest Festival that takes place in the O’Higgins Region.

The incident occurred in the afternoon of this Saturday, in the middle of the activity, leaving 115 entrepreneurs and artisans affected.

Lieutenant Felipe Mulato, from the 3rd Pichilemu Police Station, declared to radio ADN that “as a result of what happened (…) “We proceed to the arrest of a 44-year-old woman, who – for reasons that are being investigated – would have caused the fire.”

The woman, who was captured at kilometer 74 of Route 90, will be formalized for arson, while it is investigated whether more people are involved.

For his part, the mayor of Marchigüe, Cristian Salinas Herrera, announced that “tenants are being informed about the reimbursement during the next week of the apartments canceled for this harvest, as a first measure to immediately cushion the investment in the party. So that after the efforts of the authorities, we can report on the support from the central and regional Government.”

“As for the party suppliers, work is also being done internally to define the losses caused and finalize the contracts,” added the communal chief.
