The picture went around the world. The screw kiss of Leonidas Brezhnev and Erich Honecker became the most recognizable icon of the Berlin Wall, and also the most famous work of the Russian artist Dmitry Vrúbel, who has died in the German capital at the age of 62.
Entitled ‘Bruderkuss’ (kiss of brothers), his well-known mural shows former Soviet President Leonidas Brezhnev and Erich Honecker, the ousted head of state of the former GDR, kissing. Below, a sign in German and Russian that reads: “My God, help me survive this deadly love.”
“This mural is dedicated to love, to the image of love. We can all find ourselves in a similar situation, trapped between the lips of these types of monsters.
