The avenue of the sphinxes in Luxor returns to its former glory

The initiative intends to promote the site as the largest open-air museum in the world. Dancers in ancient Egyptian costumes will lead boats that in Pharaonic times contained the triad of the deities Amon, Mut and Khonsu, and will walk the newly restored Avenue of the Sphinxes.

Numerous feluccas will be illuminated on the Nile in front of the Luxor Temple, heavily decorated horse-drawn carriages they will parade along the Corniche, while traditional song and dance performances are planned throughout the city.

Foreign ambassadors were invited to the ceremony and it is President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi himself is expected. The details of the ceremony have been kept secret by the authorities, but they have promised that in terms of pomp and scope it will also eclipse the ‘Golden Parade of the Pharaohs’ which took place in Cairo in April.
