According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2023, the average monthly gross salary was 1,873 euros, which is 12.4% higher than at the same time last year, while the median salary in the second quarter was 1,524 euros.

Eveli Voolens, Head of the Social Statistics Working Group of the Statistics Department, explained that in terms of areas of activity, the average monthly gross salary in the second quarter was the highest in the areas of information and communication (3257 euros), financial and insurance activities (2953 euros) and energy (2946 euros). ).

The lowest average wages were in accommodation and food services (€1,178), other services (€1,191) and real estate (€1,268). “Most of all, the average salary increased in the areas of education (19%), as well as agriculture, forestry and fisheries (15.4%),” added Voolens.

The highest monthly gross wages were in Harju (including Tallinn; 2,093 euros) and Tartu (1,889 euros) counties, and the lowest in Valga (1,390 euros) and Hiiu (1,404 euros) counties. “Compared to the same period a year earlier, wages increased the most in Ida-Viru (14.6%) and Rapla (13%) counties. The most modest wage growth was recorded in Harju County (excluding Tallinn; 10%) and Lääne County (9.5%),” said Voolens.

The median salary, i.e. the wage rate above which an equal number of people earn, was highest in the second quarter of 2023 in information and communications (€2,768) and finance and insurance (€2,450). The lowest median wages were in real estate transactions (867 euros) and in the provision of other types of services (934 euros).
