Initiated by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, in cooperation with local community actors, this initiative benefited more than 100 children who benefited from a holiday camp organized at the “Oum Tounsi” youth center, as part of the national holiday camp program launched by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication.
In a statement to the press, the representative of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, Hala Menkari, indicated that the 5th edition of the “B7ar Bla Plastic” operation ensured, this year, to broaden the scope of action of the Foundation, by organizing a range of activities in 30 beaches and 9 regions of the Kingdom.
She noted that children from the city of Dakhla will benefit from a series of workshops aimed at raising awareness of the importance of environmental protection and the dangers of plastic waste.
For his part, the president of the association of sea lovers for underwater hunting and environmental protection, Othmane Ablagh, stressed, in a statement to MAP, that the children of the pearl of the south will benefit from several environmental awareness workshops, focusing in particular on “Marine biodiversity”, “Scientific research” and “Submerged maritime heritage”.
The children benefiting from this campaign, he continued, will also take part in other workshops related to the recycling of plastic waste, raising awareness about the dangers of these materials harmful to health, and the importance of ensuring waste management at source, in addition to raising awareness about the dangers of marine waste, and demonstrating the negative impact of microplastic particles on living beings and the marine environment.
For his part, the president of the Assalam association for the protection of maritime heritage, Sheikh Al-Mami Ahmed Bazid, noted that this initiative was an opportunity to introduce children to the maritime heritage that abounds on the region’s coasts, and to contribute to environmental awareness through several interactive workshops, in addition to highlighting the efforts made to this end by civil society, at the local, national and international levels.
For his part, Abderrazak El Hafidi, member of the association of officers and graduates of the Higher Institute of Maritime Fisheries in Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, highlighted the role of the association in raising awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and beaches, while drawing attention to the threat that plastic can pose to human and fish health.
The #B7ar Bla Plastic operation, initiated by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, under the effective presidency of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, is part of the 25th season of the “Clean Beaches” program, which this year targets 109 beaches, including 27 labeled “Blue Flag”, in addition to four marinas and, for the first time, a natural park.
