The American rock band Queens of the Stone Age will not perform at this year’s Colors of Ostrava festival. This was announced on Tuesday by the event’s dramaturg Filip Košťálek, according to whom the reason is the health of the fifty-one-year-old frontman Josh Homm.
In the program of the first day, the famous guitarist and singer Tom Morello will replace the guests. Last year, the festival canceled two headliners. British singer Ellie Goulding did not perform due to health reasons. Nigerian singer Burna Boy also did not arrive, citing a plane malfunction.
Queens of the Stone Age have now canceled the program for the whole of July. Health problems affected singer Josh Homme, who underwent cancer treatment last year. The band said in a statement that they must immediately return to the US from Europe, where the frontman will undergo surgery.

“We are very sorry, as an opener we couldn’t have asked for a better band, unfortunately Queens of the Stone Age is canceling the rest of the July program due to health reasons. This sad news also affected other festivals,” said Ondřej Bambas for the organizer of the Ostrava festival. Queens of the Stone Age also canceled performances in Slovakia’s Pohoda, Vienna, Croatia’s Zagreb and Romania’s Cluj.
For those who went to Colors of Ostrava just because of this group and bought a one-day ticket on Wednesday, the organizers offer the possibility of a refund. “The refund applies only to one-day tickets for July 17,” Bambas points out.
In the program of the first day on Wednesday, instead of Queens of the Stone Age, Tom Morello will finally perform. The 60-year-old American guitarist and political activist became famous as a member of the bands Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, between 2016 and 2019 he was a member of the supergroup Prophets of Rage and is also known under the alter ego The Nightwatchman.
Rolling Stone magazine named Morello the 18th best guitarist of all time. The musician is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and winner of two Grammy Awards.
The organizers of Colors of Ostrava already solved the problems with the missing stars last year. First, the singer Ellie Goulding canceled her performance, as the doctor did not recommend the flight and the concert in Ostrava. Instead of her, the Czech band Chinaski got into the program at the last minute.
In the end, even the Nigerian singer Burna Boy did not perform, citing a malfunction on his private plane. According to his managers, it was a problem with the engine.
