The bank accounts of Sheikh Salim and his family of 5 have been seized

On Wednesday (August 28), Bangladesh Bank’s financial intelligence unit Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) sent instructions to the country’s banks and financial institutions to freeze the accounts.

A senior official of BFIU confirmed this information.

All transactions through the personal and business accounts of those whose accounts have been frozen will be suspended. For the next 30 days, no transactions can be made as such. If necessary, this period of suspending the transaction will be extended.

BFIU’s letter said that relevant provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Rules will apply to this order to suspend transactions. In the letter, names, national identity cards of Sheikh Fazlul Karim Salim, his wife Fatema Salim, sons Sheikh Fazle Fahim, Sheikh Fazle Naeem and daughter Sheikh Amina Sultana Sania are given.

The BFIU directive further states that banks and financial institutions have been asked to send the account related information or documents such as account opening form, KYC and transaction statement etc. to them within 5 working days from the date of issue of the letter in case of suspension of an account.

Sheikh Hasina left the country after resigning from the post of Prime Minister on August 5 in the face of the unforgettable coup of the students. Through this, 16 consecutive years of Awami League’s unprecedented misrule and arbitrariness came to an end. After the change of government, the people whose bank accounts were seized have covered up.
