Last week, Ukrainian authorities raided Prometey’s office and academy, the offices of the club’s sponsors and Dubinsky’s family home on suspicion of money laundering through Prometey.

“Prometey” is a project that during its existence has not violated any law of Ukraine, paid official salaries, taxes, developed Ukrainian volleyball and basketball. Regularly supported our military forces. Not a single athlete or club employee has left the country using the right to travel abroad, Dubinsky said in a statement on the social networking site Facebook.

According to Ukrainian basketball journalist Oleksandrs Proshuta, investigations against Dubinsky and his related companies are not uncommon. In the last three, four years, he and his partners have become influential entrepreneurs in the road construction industry, their companies receiving valuable purchases from the state.

Since 2012, Volodymyrs Dubinskis and his brother Leonidas have been wanted by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for their participation in real estate fraud schemes in California.

“Prometey” won the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League in the previous two seasons. Last year, the team reached the semi-finals of the ULEB Eurocup and came a couple of wins away from getting the right to play in the Euroleague.

Already in May, the club announced that it will not play in tournaments in Europe next season.
