BOLZANO. “The Autonomous Province of Bolzano and the Municipality of Caldaro have failed for another consecutive year to make Lake Caldaro adequately and freely accessible to the public, despite the fact that the lake is a public good and the South Tyroleans have a clear right to free access”. This is stated by the Robin association, which has already collected 6,870 signatures with an online petition.
“Another bathing season is coming to an end,” the association continues, “another season in which the citizens of South Tyrol have been denied reasonable and free access to Lake Caldaro. The suitable “military beach” is owned by the autonomous province and the municipality of Caldaro is its main neighbor. They therefore had the possibility of creating free and adequate access for the population, which is completely obvious, given that Lake Caldaro is a public good and belongs to all of us. Instead, those responsible simply staged a game of ping-pong. Before the provincial elections, the Landeshauptmann declared that the petition launched by the consumer protection association Robin in October 2023 was unnecessary. In fact, according to his statements, it had been clear for some time that public access would be realized and the municipality of Caldaro only had to evaluate how to implement it. The mayor, however, wrote in the municipal bulletin on August 9, 2024 that the implementation of public access was not the responsibility of the Municipality, but of the Province.”
