The wife and two daughters of BBC commentator John Hunt were killed on Tuesday by a man armed with a crossbow. According to his own station television and the newspaper Daily Mailthe attack happened when they were at home.
After a few hours of searching, police found the suspect, Kyle Clifford, 26, in the Enffield area, Hertfordshire police confirmed in a statement quoted by the BBC. “He is receiving treatment after being found with injuries. The fire police did not have any shots,” said authorities, quoted on British television.
John Hunt is a ex-policeman who has worked for the past 20 years for BBC Five Live radio and the Sky Sports Racing sports channel as a sports commentator mainly on national and Olympic horse races. The couple will have another daughter, according to reports. media from the UK.
The daughters, aged 25 and 28, were found with their mother at their home in Bushey, Hertfordshire, last night. “Everyone at Sky Sports Racing is deeply saddened by the tragic deaths in Hertfordshire and our thoughts are with our colleague John Hunt, his family and friends at this terrible time,” the statement read.
The Minister for the Interior, Yvette Cooper, wrote on the social network X that “The lives of three women in Bushey last night were a tragedy“adding that his “thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims and the community” and that he would remain “updated“ about the subject. Speaking to Sky News, a spokesman for the Minister said that the British Government was considering a review of the law, and the possibility of greater control over the possession of crossbows.
