Manuel Seco’s (1928-2021) project, to create a dictionary of the language with examples of the use of the words collected, continues its course. The BBVA Foundation has already posted the third edition of the ‘Dictionary of Current Spanish’ (www.fbbva.es/diccionario/), directed by Olimpia Andrés and with the documentation work of Gabino Ramos.

Both have worked with Manuel Seco in the two previous editions, the first in 1999, and also in this third, until the promoter of the idea had to leave him for health reasons. In this new edition, they have had the digital supervision of Carlos Domínguez.

The work records the vocabulary used in Spain since 1950 from some three thousand books and five hundred periodicals that serve as a documentary base. The third edition expands the previous one by more than 8,000 entries and allows the user different levels of depth.

You can perform a simple visualization, typical of the usual dictionaries, or an advanced one, which shows the different meanings of the words and their expression in literary texts and in those published in magazines and newspapers.
