“The Butcher’s Sons” may sound a bit like a new butcher shop that opened in the Carmel market, but those who have heard the butcher from Buffalo know that he is one of the most kicking and roughest rappers of the last decade. Now he is going to bring the unique New York rap of Griselda Records to Israel as well, in a concert that will take place on May 21 at the Barbie Club, as part of his “I Made It World Tour”. The Live Nation company is responsible for bringing Benny, which together with the appearance of Travis Scott (to be held next week) appears to be a production company that understands the audience of hip-hop enthusiasts in Israel (and they do promise that more leading names from the genre are expected to arrive this summer). Benny De Butcher, or Jeremy Panick if you’re his mother, is a member of the trio, the collective and sometimes label Griselda Records – along with his cousins Westside Gun and Conway De Machine. To the residents of Israel, Mr. de Boucher may be remembered as the rapper who popularized Zvika Pick (his song “Flood The Block“From about two years ago, I simplified the”These are Cinderella” by Tzvika Pick, and you’ll soon understand why), but for about a decade this is one of the most interesting rappers currently active in hip-hop culture, as part of one of the most interesting collectives in the genre right now.
Benny de Boucher released his first mixtape somewhere in 2004, when he was acting under the name BENNY, but he only experienced the breakthrough with the establishment of the Griselda collective, which was designed to help his friends release material. It certainly worked, as Grisalda became a talked-about underground hit almost instantly. Their unique sound mixed between the boom-bap that characterized New York hip-hop in the nineties, and between current underground hip-hop (and also added it all with dreamy adlibs). Also their crazy work rate, which led to the fact that about every two weeks one project or another came out on their behalf, helped build the hype.
In relation to Griselda, Benny is considered the star of the group. Westside Gun is the strange mastermind who put it all together, Conway is the force on the streets (or in other words, the gangsta) and Benny is the prodigy who, despite his rough style, manages to appeal to a more mainstream audience as well. Therefore, Benny also received several guest appearances from prominent rappers, such as Rick Ross, Freddie Gibbs, Lil Wayne and his most prominent collaborator, J. Cole. Since then, Butcher managed to release three official albums (it’s much more confusing when there are so many many remixes and collaborations) with the last of them, “Tana Talk 4” from 2022, produced almost entirely by the legendary producer The Alchemist – an alternative hip-hop legend in his own right, and the son of a pair of Israeli parents. You guessed it, he also produced the song with Simpol Tzvika Peak.
