The lowest air temperature was +5.6 degrees on September 9 at the Madona observation station, while the highest – up to +30 degrees – the thermometer rose on September 4 in Bauska.
In total, 36 heat records were broken, and on September 4 and 8, the record for the relevant date for the whole of Latvia was also set.
The average amount of precipitation in Latvia in the first decade of September was only four millimeters or 18% of the norm. The most precipitation – 16.5 millimeters – was in Ventspils, but there was no significant precipitation at the observation stations in Alūksne, Daugavpils, Gulbene, Jēkabpils, Madona, Ogresgal, Rēzekne, Rožupe, Skrīveri and Zosēni.
The average relative humidity was 71% – from 62% in Riga to 85% in Kolka. The strongest wind gusts – 16.2 meters per second – were observed on September 9 in Ventspils.
It has already been reported that Sunday, September 22, will be the equinox and astronomical autumn will begin in the Northern Hemisphere. Meteorological autumn could also begin on this day, because according to forecasts, the daily average air temperature in Latvia will drop below +15 degrees.
