DISPATCH — Starting today, merchants will no longer print receipts automatically. If you want it, you will have to ask for it. While some have already chosen digital solutions to replace paper, others are resistant to it.

Postponed twice, the application of this decision voted within the framework of the climate and resilience law is effective from this Tuesday, August 1. The idea is simple and coordinated with many other changes in habits: digitize everything that can be digitized, for the planet. “The only thing that will change is that if you want the receipt, you will have to think about asking for it,” explains Olivia Grégoire, Minister Delegate for Trade.

Traders or customers, many have already become accustomed to this. In fact, it is more often the merchants who offer customers to print the ticket, or not. Some are already equipped with software to scan tickets and send them by email or SMS. To do this, new dematerialization start-ups such as KillBills offer to support companies.

However, not everyone is keen on digitizing everyday life. As reported Le Figaro, many traders find it “too complicated” for not much, especially the smallest of them. On the other hand, customers are worried about having to provide ever more personal data. On this subject, the CNIL explains: “If the merchant decides to offer dematerialized sending of the ticket, the solutions to be favored must seek to minimize, as much as possible, the collection of personal data, or even to avoid it.” According to the authority, the merchant should be transparent with the customer, indicating in particular “the objectives pursued by the collection of data” and emphasizing that the data could be used “for commercial prospecting purposes”.
