This year, the OCU has analyzed the use of two chemical sunscreens whose safety, according to the organization, is not clear according to the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety of the European Commission (SCCS). On the other hand, OCU criticizes the abuse of environmental claims, such as ‘biodegradable formula’, ‘coral friendly’ or ‘ocean friendly’ in products “with potentially toxic chemical filters for the aquatic environment”, they point out. In this sense, they denounce that there are few products with physical filters, such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, or harmless chemical filters for living organisms, such as Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine.
