Last year marked thirty years since Rosario published his first album, Of law. To commemorate this anniversary, the little one from the Flores records a great hit with collaborations from national and international artists. The singer will perform on August 21 in Puigcerdà, as part of SummerFest Cerdanya, and next November 11 at the Girona Auditorium, as part of the Temporada Alta program.
You come from a family of very important musicians, was it difficult for you to find your style?
I always wanted to be an artist, but I had to find what I wanted to do. It cost me the same as it can cost anyone. I wish I had found my own style at 18, but I had to wait a couple of years. I was very lucky because I had my brother by my side, along with Fernando and Jan, who is my lifelong producer. We met at this time and together we managed to define the Rosario style, which is the best thing that can happen to an artist, to create his own style.
Is his brother Antonio, another big name in Spanish music, still very present in his songs?
He is present in everything, in my music, in my way of being, in my way of breathing. They never leave you, neither your head nor your heart. I imagine I will have a lot of his stuff and all are welcome.
She is also an actress. If you could choose any character to play, which one would you choose?
The character I would choose is Rosario the singer and artist, which is the one I like the most. I’ve always loved cinema, but I feel like a stage artist, and that’s why I’ve always put all my energy into my music career. I enjoy making movies and would love to act, but music holds a bigger place in my heart.
Do you think the new streaming music platforms have changed the perception of the album as a total work?
I am another generation. I don’t like to listen to just one song, I like to enjoy the whole album because you get to know the artist more, you know more, you enter his world more. Music has changed so much; the way to sell it, to listen to it, to make it, to sing it… In the end, it’s normal, music is evolution and everything changes.
It is in favor of incorporating new technologies, such asautotune?
As long as it has truth and authenticity, yes. In the current system one thing becomes fashionable and it seems like there’s only that type of music, but there are so many different genres that are out there and they’re not given enough value because they’re not heard as much. There must be room for all styles and for the whole world, but, well, fads are fads and that’s always been the case, I don’t think it’s going to change.
In the current political context, do you think that politicians give enough importance to culture?
This question is very complicated. We are in a very difficult time, we have to sit back and see how everything works out. Look more for the human being and for nature. My politics is love, music and filling your heart with beautiful energy and taking care of this earth, which is the only real thing left to us.
What are your next professional challenges?
I am in a very nice project. I will make a record called 30 años de ley to commemorate the release of my first record, where I will include most of the most successful tracks of my career and will make versions with national and international artists. It’s a beautiful initiative, so I’m very excited about it.
