The Milli Majlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan regards the adoption by the European Parliament on April 25, 2024 of a resolution that is far from objective on the issue of civil society and human rights in Azerbaijan as a biased political action against the country, and strongly rejects unfounded accusations based on false and falsified information.
As Day.Az reports, this is stated in the statement of the Azerbaijani Parliament regarding the resolution of the European Parliament.
It was noted that it is unfortunate that this structure has become a tool in the hands of forces conducting a hostile and slanderous campaign against Azerbaijan after the Second Karabakh War, which put an end to the 30-year occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia.
“It is no coincidence that since 2021, the European Parliament, under various pretexts, has adopted 8 resolutions against Azerbaijan. During the period when, after the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, measures are being taken to advance the normalization process, in particular, the first encouraging results were achieved in the direction of border delimitation, another The action of the European Parliament is aimed at undermining the reputation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, striking a blow at the peace process by forces with the worldview of crusaders who do not want to accept the new realities that have arisen in the South Caucasus,” the statement says.
Regarding the claims contained in the resolution, the Milli Majlis noted that Azerbaijan is always committed to the position of protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms, ensuring the rule of law, and consistent implementation of the principles of the rule of law.
“An assessment based on double standards of the situation in the Republic of Azerbaijan in the field of protecting human rights and freedoms, ensuring the right to freedom of assembly, freedom of speech and information is unacceptable. And it is regrettable that the European Parliament, which did not hesitate to slander Azerbaijan in the matter of protecting human rights and freedoms, always, chose to remain silent about the trampled rights and freedoms of more than 1 million Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons, who during the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia were expelled from their native lands, subjected to ethnic cleansing, and genocide,” the statement says.
It was noted that such campaigns directed against Azerbaijan damage the prospects for the development of bilateral relations, and also deal another blow to the reputation of the European Parliament. The Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan calls on the European Parliament to refrain from actions that discredit the work carried out in our country in the field of democratic construction, to take an objective position on issues related to our country, and not to take a unilateral approach based on political considerations.
The Azerbaijani parliament stated that no force could force Azerbaijan to deviate from the path of democratic development.
