The State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill, according to which for speeding on the roads by more than 60 km / h and for driving into the oncoming lane, the driver could face two years in prison. This was reported on the official website of the lower house of parliament.

The measure is provided for persons who previously received an administrative penalty and were deprived of the right to drive vehicles. The exceptions are cases of bypassing obstacles and registration of such violations by means of automatic fixation.

Together with imprisonment for up to two years, a person will be prohibited from holding certain positions or carrying out certain types of activities for a maximum of three years. The minimum penalty for the same actions will be fines of 200,000-300,000 rubles.

The explanatory note to the bill says that now more than 40% of drivers are not stopped by the likelihood of being brought to administrative responsibility for speeding, so they do it again. In addition, almost 10% of motorists grossly violate traffic rules by repeatedly driving into the oncoming lane.

Also, the State Duma announced plans to work out the issue of administrative responsibility for dangerous driving. The chairman of the lower house of parliament, Viacheslav Volodin, said that the relevant amendments to the legislation should be submitted for consideration in February 2022.
