The Bio Labor Air Force base may be converted into a heritage site

When the Paya Lebar Air Force base is relocated in 2030, its current location may be transformed into a heritage site.

The area could be created around the air traffic control tower, aircraft parking lot, and former passenger terminal buildings.

It is one of the recommendations made by the Singapore Architects Association and the Planners Association, appointed by the Urban Renovation Commission.

With the relocation of the Air Force base, the 800-hectare area, 5 times the size of the city of Do Pao, will be ready for development.

The new city, which will include housing, entertainment and workplaces, will be gradually developed there.

For example, the 3.8 km long runway will be converted into a community space for different uses.

Existing height restrictions will be lifted in and around Bio Labor.

That would lead to the construction of taller buildings there.

At least half of the new city’s energy needs will come from renewable energy sources, including solar.

The Commission noted that the proposed ideas and plans for the future master plan development of the new area will be examined in detail.
