“The Black Duke” in the Gardener Museum – A Hero?
Wolfenbuettel. The Gardener Museum invites you to a special lecture on Friday, July 7th from 6:30 p.m. in the Streckhof at Neuen Weg 33. Friedrich Wilhelm, the “Black Duke”, is still seen as a glorified hero in the history of Braunschweig. In addition to a lot of light, there are also human weaknesses that are often not addressed and “swept under the rug”.
After intensive literature studies, inspection of files in the Lower Saxony State Archives, in the Secret Prussian State Archives and evaluation of numerous previously unknown English sources, speaker Hans Kolmsee also acknowledged this side and presented it in his lecture. Admission is free. Donations are requested.
