The Black Music Big Band Junior records the repertoire of “The Commitments”

by time news

The young musicians of the Black Music Big Band Junior, aged between eight and fifteen, have just released the album Seguint les Commitments, based on the repertoire of The Commitments, the 90s film directed by Alan Parker in which a group of young Dubliners try to form a soul band to escape the depressed environment in which they found themselves.

Thirty years later, the young people of the Girona training, a training project that derives from the Black Music Festival and is promoted by the contest and Casas de la Música, make the film’s repertoire their own. The whole process started in 2021 with the idea of making a tribute to the film and culminates with this recording. During all this time the repertoire has been worked on and performed live, even with the presence of Andrew Strong, protagonist of the film, in one of the concerts. The album was recorded and mixed at El Local studios in Vilablareix by Marc Piña.
