The tricolor workforce is valued at nearly a billion euros when that of Morocco is pointed at less than 250 million euros.
We do not know what will be the truth of the ground, Wednesday evening, between the teams of France and Morocco, in the semi-finals of the World Cup. The truth of the market is clear: the Blues are all together worth four times more than the Atlas Lions. By aggregating the data from the reference site Transfermarkt, which regularly updates the estimated commercial value of the players, we see that the French workforce is valued at nearly one billion euros. For its part, the Moroccan selection shows an addition of 241.1 million euros, or a quarter of the tricolor value. And this while the Atlas Lions are 26 against 25 French (not replaced, Karim Benzema would have further accentuated the difference).
If we look at the individualities, we see that the bromance between Mbappé and Hakimi is as much a friendship of great value as it is of great values. Estimated respectively at 160 million euros and 65 million euros, the two partners at PSG are the most expensive players in their national team. On the French side, Aurélien Tchouaméni (80 million euros) comes second before a trio of Koundé, Dembélé and Coman, each clocked in at around 60 million euros. Among Moroccans, the second most expensive player is defender Nayef Aguerd, valued at 25 million euros… which would only make him the 20th most expensive player if he played in blue.
To determine the value of a player, intrinsic talent is of course decisive. But the age factor also plays a big role. We realize it less on the Moroccan side but if we take the French, it appears very clearly. By creating a scatter plot for each of the blue players, it appears that players tend to get cheaper as they get older.
Finally, it should be noted that the last update of these estimates dates back to November 2, before the start of the World Cup in Qatar. Given the course of the Moroccans, it’s a safe bet that the rating of a package of players should experience a jump in the weeks to come.
