Jaffna – About 130 people who were in a boat that drifted off the coast of Kataikadu, Maruthangeni have been rescued by the navy and taken to the Kangesanturai naval base.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that they are from Myanmar.

A boat with more than 100 people has washed ashore in the East Khattakad forest area of North West Jaffna.
The Sri Lanka Navy has been informed about this by the local marine workers while the said boat has washed ashore at a distance of 5 nautical miles from Kataikatu beach.
After this, 4 naval ships have been sent to rescue the people from the said boat.
Kangesanthurai Action to take to port
The Sri Lanka Navy said that many children were found on the said boat and no information regarding their nationality was found.
Also, steps have been taken to take the people in the boat to Kangesan port.
