As a result of the strong winds blowing over part of France, the Bouches-du-Rhône department will face a “very high” risk of forest fires this Friday, warns the forest weather forecast. During the day of August 4, the weather conditions will make “the risk of starting and spreading forest and vegetation fires very high compared to summer normals”, specifies the forecaster.

In addition to Bouches-du-Rhône, the departments of Var, Vaucluse and Hérault are placed on orange alert – synonymous with high risk – for Friday. The danger is considered moderate in twelve other southern departments and Corsica.

The risk of fire starting will be “high” from Thursday in Bouches-du-Rhône, Var and Vaucluse. Seven massifs in the department will also be closed on Thursday, indicated the prefecture of the Paca region on Twitter, renamed X. These are the massifs of Rougadou, Alpilles, Chambremont, Castillon, Sulauze, Arbois and of the Blue Coast. 17 other massifs have been placed on yellow alert. Six massifs will be prohibited from access in the Var and those of the Rhône valley in the Vaucluse. The very touristy creeks of Cassis and Marseille will remain open.

This is the second time this season that the forest weather reports a risky situation in the Bouches-du-Rhône after a first alert on July 25th.

The authorities, who launched this new “forest weather” this year, insist that nine out of ten fire starts are of human origin and call for great caution.
