RIYADH: Five people got a new life through the father’s decision to donate the organs of a brain-dead Saudi woman. A 20-year-old woman suffered brain death while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Having lost hope of regaining his daughter’s life, the father informed the authorities of the Saudi Center for Organ Transplant (SCOT) about his decision to donate organs.

Scott received the heart, kidneys, lungs and liver from the young woman. The authorities of the transplant center stated that five patients have benefited from this.

Meanwhile, the organs of a person who suffered brain death at Khunfuda General Hospital were given to a dying patient at Riyadh King Faisal Specialist Hospital. A spokesman for the Ministry of Health disclosed that this mission was successfully carried out with proper planning in conjunction with the Khunfuda provincial authorities.

The spokesperson said that procedures related to the organ donor’s family, pre-surgery preparations at the hospital, field ambulance team and traffic department were coordinated by Scott and the Ministry of Health. A spokesperson of the ministry said that during the surgery, the specially trained medical team was assisted by the air equation system.

Established in 1993, the National Kidney Foundation was renamed ‘SCOT’ and expanded after King Salman came to power. Local media reported that the system has saved many lives through some remarkable surgeries. King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman are registered with the organ donation scheme.
