Watan Al-Youm – Dar Al-Fikr released the first edition of the book Critical Thinking Skills: The Brain, Learning and Thinking, written by Thouqan Obeidat and Suhaila Abu Al-Sameed. Amman: July 2023.
The book came in twelve chapters, which included different aspects of thinking
With practical applications from various academic subjects over 438 pages.
In its first three chapters, the book highlighted information about the brain, its working principles, and applications in the field of learning.
The fourth chapter, which is the most detailed chapter, deals with thinking skills, the meaning of mastering thinking skills, the most prominent principles of logic, and logic issues, and answers my question: Why do we want critical thinking? And how to reveal the fallacies of thinking,? What are the forms of misleading practice such as;
Deleting basic information from the text, inserting false information into it, and flooding the arena with information
marginal to cover an event, publish news without mentioning its source,
The news was published in a narrow media corner, and the skills of evaluating documents and sources were presented.
The rest of the chapters dealt with theories
Multiple Intelligences, Thinking Hats and Corts, and applications and practical lessons on them.
The tenth chapter dealt with the thinking patterns of executive, legislative and judicial personalities, closed and open, with indicators for measuring these patterns!
The eleventh chapter dealt with strategies for generating ideas and practical applications. The last chapter focused on practical applications of the various ideas of the book.
The Critical Thinking book was distinguished by its applications, the comprehensiveness of its ideas, and the simplicity of its language. It can be used by educators, including teachers, supervisors, and university students.
The book covers an urgent need to teach critical thinking and debunking fallacies.
