After nine months of discussion, the Federal Judiciary has decided to follow up on an unprecedented case by the aeronautical and national defense industry against the policy of hiring Brazilian engineers by the American giant Boeing, a dispute with geopolitical implications that involved the Lula government.
Last week, the Third Federal Court of São José dos Campos (SP) decided that the process to determine whether the Americans are practicing predatory competition in the city’s aerospace hub, led by Embraer but which includes dozens of smaller companies, must advance to the evidence and witness stage.
And, the Abimde (Brazilian Association of the Defense Materials Industry) and the AIAB (Association of Aerospace Industries of Brazil) filed a lawsuit on November 22 to stop contracting on draconian terms, in order to limit, to through a precautionary measure (a provisional decision), the hiring of 0.6% of the engineering corps of strategic defense companies or with contracts in similar projects.
Likewise, a fine of 5 million reais is contemplated for Boeing, which would be allocated to educational institutions in the aeronautical field.
