The legal siege on the former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro tightens after his former aide-de-camp has decided accuse him of devising a plot to illegally sell a set of jewelry valued at 3.2 million dollars that Saudi Arabia had given to the then first lady, Michelle Bolsonaro, in October 2021 and that she had to deliver when she left power.

De Moraes’ ruling responds to a Federal Police requestwho wants to investigate the accounts of Bolsonaro and his wife in search of suspicious transactions and, ultimately, to find out if the money obtained from the sale of those jewels reached the former head of state, who denies any wrongdoing.
The judge also gave the green light for the Federal Police to request the United States to lift the bank secrecy of those investigated who have accounts in that country.
In these inquiries, Bolsonaro’s former aide-de-camp, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cidwho this Thursday, through his lawyer, announced a change of strategy in his defense and anticipated that he would directly target the ex-ruler as main responsible for the plot.
Lawyer Cezar Bitencourt told local media that his client will confess to the Police that he sold in the United States the jewels received by Bolsonaro on various official trips, that he transferred the money to Brazil and that he handed it over in cash to the far-right leader.Bitencourt cites that, for example, for the sale of two luxury watches, a Rolex and a Patek Philippe, they obtained $68,000.
