New British Prime Minister Keir Starmer Cancels Vacation Amid Unrest
The newly elected Prime Minister Keir Starmer has canceled his planned vacation in Europe following unrest sparked by far-right groups in Britain. The turmoil, which began with the killing of three children in Southport, has posed a significant test for the new Labour government.
Starmer announced his decision to remain in office until next week, working from both 10 Downing Street and the Checkers residence. He urged the police to remain vigilant over the weekend, despite reporting that heightened security measures and swift sentencing had helped stabilize the situation.
The unrest, which erupted after the Southport tragedy, has gripped Britain for over a week. Far-right groups have been implicated in the violence, leading to widespread protests and calls for action against racism and extremism.
Yesterday, numerous anti-racism demonstrations took place across the UK, with up to 15,000 people gathering in Northern Ireland alone. Demonstrators also gathered outside the headquarters of the populist Reform UK party in London.
