26-year-old Osvaldas Aliulis, accused of a gruesome murder, appeared before the court on Tuesday – he faces 7 to 15 years in prison.
The crime was committed on the evening of May 1 last year in the town of Balbieriškis.
The perpetrator and his victim were visiting a neighbor at the time.
According to criminologists, after a quarrel broke out, O. Aliulis began to beat a man twice his age with his fists and feet: after the first blows, the man fell to the floor, he was kicked while lying down. He was hit at least 8 times in the head, chest and other parts of the body.
The execution was held in a room, at a table covered with alcohol. The young man on trial for murder was heavily influenced by alcohol.
The unconscious man was rushed to the hospital, where he died on October 2.
A criminal case was opened from Praži due to a serious health disorder, but after her death it was reclassified as murder.
There were two other men in the apartment at the time of the crime, but they did not defend the victim who was being brutally beaten.
During the pre-trial investigation, O. Aliulis claimed that he did not remember what happened – neither the blows nor other details.
He was not arrested until the death of the victim.
Kaunas prosecutor Vytautas Gataveckas claimed on the news portal lrytas.lt that sufficient weighty evidence was collected against O. Aliulis during the investigation.
While the beaten victim was in the hospital, O. Aliulis committed another crime – he was caught for theft.
Witnesses are being questioned at the Kaunas District Court on Tuesday afternoon – the man who took part in the drinking party with the violent and murdered man and three other local residents were invited to the hearing.
O. Aliulis, who did not work anywhere officially, lived on benefits and private jobs, is awaiting the verdict, being arrested. He agreed to testify in court only after questioning other participants in the case.
O. Aliulis had previously been on trial 8 times – for violence, theft, violations of public order and other crimes.
