A study by the channel Route None has revealed which are the most competitive and least competitive leagues in the world for the last 15 years.
A mathematical formula is used to determine competitiveness, which includes several factors such as number of matches won by the champions, points difference to the second team, number of titles won and goal difference.
This is how the league index is obtained, and the higher it is, the more uncompetitive the league is, and conversely, the lower it is, the more competitive the league is.
The research was done for the 100 biggest leagues in the world.
The 5 most non-competitive leagues are:
- Tajikistan Football League – 4.30 (index)
- The Croatian Football League – 3.83
- Welsh Premier League – 3.67
- Ukrainian Premier League – 3.51
- The Bulgarian first league – 3.48
In the Tajik football league, “FC Istiklol” is dominant, as for the last 15 years they have won the league 11 times, which does not sound as impressive as our hegemon “Ludogorets” or the Croatian “Dinamo” (Zagreb), but the formula considers many other factors.
“Istiklol” in years that won the league almost always won with a 15 point difference, even in one season they made a positive goal difference of 114 in only 23 games.
The interesting thing is that they are undefeated so far this season with 14 out of 14 wins.
For the last 15 years, our “Ludogorets” have won 13 league titles, and for the last 13 seasons, on average, they won the title by at least 8.5 points with a 50 goal difference.
Thus fell one of the prides of the BFS, that we had a competitive championship.
The most competitive leagues in the world according to this study are:
- Football League of Kosovo – 0.67
- Latvian First League – 0.74
- Brazilian Serie A – 0.86
- Senegalese Premier League – 0.94
- Ghana Premier League – 0.94
Among the other Balkans, Kosovo has had 8 different champions in the last 15 years, and only recently has a dominant player appeared in the form of FC Balkani, who have won the league in the last three seasons.
