The Bundestag (German Parliament) proposed to triple the special fund for the modernization of the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces), to €300 billion.
As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported this, quoting Roderich Kiesewetter, a member of the Bundestag from the Christian Democratic Union.
As the publication noted, Kiesewetter considers it possible to increase the special fund of the German Armed Forces to €300 billion.
“Excluding all defense spending from the debt brake (a mechanism that prohibits taking out too many loans – approx.) looks attractive,” the newspaper quotes the words of Andreas Schwarz, a member of the Bundestag from the Social Democratic Party of Germany. “There is a lot of catching up to do, the danger from Russia will not disappear,” he said. In his opinion, defense spending and a set of measures to protect civilians should be permanently excluded from the debt brake.
