The German-French arms concern KNDS will receive a large order for about a hundred units of equipment for the Bundeswehr, including 80 Boxer RCH 155 self-propelled howitzers. Ukraine should become the first country to receive this type of weapon at the end of this year or the beginning of next year, Der Spiegel magazine reported, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

According to him, the German Ministry of Defense has expressed interest in purchasing about a hundred Boxer howitzers from the concern, including 80 RCH 155 vehicles. The publication explains that these self-propelled howitzers of 155 mm caliber can fire while moving at full speed. It is claimed that the technology is unique.

The magazine points out that within the first tranche, the German Ministry of Defense will send the company about €2 billion from the Bundeswehr’s special fund. The defense ministry wants to submit the corresponding contract for approval by the Bundestag (German parliament) in the fourth quarter of the year. According to the magazine’s estimates, the scale of the order exceeds the Bundeswehr’s needs for howitzers. In this context, the publication notes that Germany’s NATO partners, including Great Britain, have also expressed interest in purchasing these weapons.

In June, Spiegel reported that the German Defense Ministry was planning to order 105 Leopard 2A8 tanks from the KNDS concern for €2.93 billion. On July 3, the Bundestag Budget Committee approved the order. It also gave the green light to purchase four Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, guided missiles, and artillery shells for a total of more than €6 billion. The tanks are planned to enter service with the Bundeswehr by 2030 and will be intended, among other things, to equip the Bundeswehr brigade in Lithuania.
