A bus driver in Kiryat Bialik was attacked three weeks ago with a board by another driver. Yesterday he was informed that the case against him was closed due to lack of evidence. He intends to appeal this and this is the police’s response

Against the background of the violence that is raging in the streets, promises were heard from the police that every case will be taken seriously – that we will not see cases that are closed for no reason or fall through the cracks. However, in an incident from three weeks ago in Kiryat Bialik – an ‘Egged’ driver was attacked by another driver with a wooden board.

It started with an argument between the two, a truck driver who was engaged in pruning trees. The driver believed that the bus did not have enough room to pass and preferred to wait. The attacking driver first spat on the bus driver, then when the bus driver tried to take a photo of the vehicle’s license plate, he hit him with the wooden board.

The bus driver received a message that the case was closed due to lack of evidence and it was hinted to him that the reason was that the security camera on the bus did not work and the attacking driver filed a counter-complaint against the bus driver. This is what Chen Biar reported in ‘Kan 11’.

In response, the Israel Police stated: “Every complaint received by the police that raises suspicions of committing a criminal offense is followed up and treated thoroughly, as is the case in this case. Upon receipt of the complaint, an investigation was opened in the framework of which a variety of actions were carried out with the aim of finding the truth. At its conclusion, and in accordance with the evidentiary infrastructure obtained, it was decided to close the case “.

The driver of the attacked bus announced that he intends to appeal the decision through his lawyer Nir Altman.
