In 2023, the Russian government will additionally allocate more than 2 billion rubles. for scientific research in the space industry. This was discussed during a meeting with vice-premiers reported Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

In total, according to Mishustin, this year an additional 4 billion rubles will be allocated for priority research and development work.

“Of these, over 2 billion rubles. – for research in the interests of the space industry. They are increasingly being carried out by businesses, too. We are talking primarily about the creation of ultra-high-resolution satellites for remote sensing of the Earth,” Mishustin clarified. He noted that one of the main tasks is to qualitatively improve the orbital constellation.

RUB 1.7 billion will be allocated for the development of electricity storage technologies, which are needed for the production of battery cells and materials for batteries, Mishustin added.

Subsidies will be allocated through the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, as well as the National Technology Initiative Fund. The Prime Minister emphasized that the process will take place on the terms of co-financing from private investors.

In June, Mishustin, at a strategic session on the development of the rocket and space industry, said that it is necessary to strengthen work in a number of areas, but first of all, Russia needs to “accelerately increase the number of satellites to more than 1000.” He clarified that the basis for these plans will be the Sphere project. He believes that it is necessary to attract private business to develop capacities for serial production of satellites.

In August, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Roscosmos and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives to Promote New Projects (ASI) to consider the issue of creating spacecraft for extremely low orbits and manufacturing prototypes for testing. Enterprises must determine the feasibility of the program and evaluate the amount of funds and sources of its financing. A report on this must be submitted by December 1.
