The cable collapse caused chaos in Chamartín on a new day and delayed high-speed trains

by time news

New chaotic day at the Chamartín-Clara Campoamor station. An incident affecting the electrification has caused delays in several high-speed trains that start and end at this station in the north of Madrid, as reported by Edif through its social networks.

Not a single day without incidents at Cercanías Madrid: delays tripled in 10 years

Specifically, the fault in the catenary recorded at 3:35 pm left high-speed tracks 19, 20 and 21 without service, with the rest of the tracks (from 14 to 18) operational. Six trains have been affected so far by the incident and have suffered an average delay of 30 minutes, two of them on the Avant de Renfe between Madrid and Valladolid and another on the Irio Madrid-Alicante.

As Adif explained in a statement through its social networks, they are working with the operators that provide service at the station to try to divert a train to the Puerta de Atocha station and thus clear the station, which at the moment only operates with five of the eight existing roads.

Due to the delays, some lasting more than an hour, a crowd of hundreds of passengers has gathered at the station. To avoid crowds, Adif has implemented a protocol that includes regulating passenger access during boarding, assigning security patrols to the streets to assist passengers, strengthening the number of helpers at the station, strengthening the public address system to inform those affected, assist vulnerable people and people with mobility limitations and requesting the presence of state security forces and corps, mobile brigades and the intervention unit of the National Police (UIP).
