The CAL made a decision on the case of assemblywoman Valentina Centeno

Assemblywoman Valentina Centeno received a response from the CAL regarding the complaint by legislator Gissella Molina.

According to Molina, Centeno used the symbols of his investiture to make false and unfounded statements that They damaged the prestige of the institution. The administrative fault is contemplated in numeral 3 of the Article 170 of the Organic Law of the Legislative Function.

The complaint requested a sanction with suspension without pay of 9 to 30 daysOn June 18, during the 936th session of the National AssemblyCenteno told the press that the objective of a resolution was to declare the mental incapacity of President Noboa and “declare him insane”something that, according to Molina, was completely false.

The CAL chose not to sanction the legislator Valentina Centenoalthough he will receive a warning for his statements on June 18.

Context of the statements

In session 936, the National Assembly intended to approve a resolution to condemn Noboa’s statementspublished in The New Yorkeragainst the leaders of Chile, Colombia, Argentina and El Salvador.

Centeno diverted attention with his statements, which, according to Molina, generated panic and confusion in the citizenship by hinting at a plan of democratic destabilization. Molina pointed out that Centeno’s statements They had no evidenceconstituting a serious damage to the image of the Assembly. The CAL decided not to proceed with Molina’s request, but warned Centeno to avoid doing so in the future statements that damage the image of the Assembly.
