The CALAVERA ISLAND FESTIVAL presents its selection of short films, with 18 works in competition

He Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival City of La Laguna Calavera Island presents the selection of titles that will compete for the Best Short Film Award in its seventh edition, which will be held at Multicines Tenerife (CC Alcampo, La Laguna), between November 10 and 19 with the sponsorship of the La Laguna City Council, through the Department of Culture, the Cabildo of Tenerife, Promotur, Tourism of the Canary Islands, Canary Islands Latitude of Life, the Canary Islands advance with Europe; the Canary Institute of Cultural Development, Canary Islands Film and Tenerife Film Commission. The selected works will also compete for the Audience Award for Best Short Film, an award that will be decided by the attending viewers.

The Selection Committee, coordinated by Manuel Diaz Noda, highlights the extraordinary quality of the works registered, framed in the various subgenres of fantasy. The Official Short Film Section in competition will be made up of a total of 18 productions selected from the nearly 500 titles received, mainly from the United States, Spain and Mexico, as well as the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and France.

The Official Short Film Section will be divided into two sessions in the programming. The first includes: Affentanz – Hunter (Germany, Cyprian Hercka), Ashkasha (Spain and Argentina, Lara Maltz), Bookworm (Spain, Javier Yánez), Iago Y Tristán (Spain, Miguel Ibáñez Monroy), Ivania (Spain, Luigi Abanto Varese ), La Fianza (Spain, Eduardo Cubillo), Los Cómplices (Spain, Alberto Evangelio), Nian (United States, Michelle Krusiec), Print The Legend (Spain, Víctor Matellano) and Psicario (Spain, Daniel Padró). Session 2 of short films covers: El Cristo de la Calavera (Spain, Chus Lara), El Feast of the Beasts (The Feast, Chile, Simón Bucher, Amanda Rivera and Claudia Saldivia), Extint (Spain, Raúl Díez Rodríguez), La Aldea (Spain, Joel Rodríguez), Lágrimas de Dragón (Spain, Íñigo Álvarez Aguado and Antonio García Tardón), Nubes (Spain, Edu Escudero), Pisanka (Spain, Jorge Yúdice) and What-If-I (Italy, Lavinia Tommasoli and Pietro Traversa). Canarian short films

The short films La Fianza and La Aldea are signed by Canarian filmmakers Eduardo Cubillo and Joel Rodríguez. In addition, the Calavera Island Festival will offer for the first time the out-of-competition screening of two short films featured in the Panorama section, also from the Canary Islands: the fan film Last Trial: A Star Wars Collateral Story, by Marino Darés; and Lapso, by Cándido Pérez de Armas.

Added to this list are the short films participating in the 10th edition of the Cinedfest, Educational Film Festival for Primary, Secondary, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training Centers, and which were recognized by Calavera Island: Astaroth (IES Arguineguín) and Conticinio (IES La Laboral de La Laguna).

The Calavera Island Festival was born in 2017 and in its seven years of history it has achieved a significant national impact and is already considered one of the five most relevant fantasy film festivals in the country. At the international level it has also become one of the events to take into account, thanks to the participation of such relevant figures as Belén Rueda, John Landis, Deborah Nadoolman, Sarah Douglas, Rick Baker, Caroline Munro, David Naughton, Jack Taylor , Enzo G. Castellari, Mick Garris, Neil Marshall, Álex de la Iglesia, Nicholas Rowe, Colin Arthur or Lamberto Bava. Other guests who have visited Tenerife as part of the Isla Calavera Festival and who have put the event on the map of cinematographic meetings are Paco Plaza, Carolina Bang, Paco Cabezas, Víctor Matellano, Juanma Bajo Ulloa, Eugenio Mira, Charlotte Kirk or Lola Dueñas, among others.
