The deadline for sending works to the 2023 RM Azkue Literature Awards is open. It will end on February 29 of next year, and the jury’s decision will be announced before April 30. The initiative has once again been organized by the Euskaltzaindia and the Bilbao Bizkaia Kutxa Foundation.

The purpose of these awards is to attract young writers to the world of literature, and, as usual, two genres are awarded: narrative and poetry. Each gender has two levels: Level A: born in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013; and level B: 2006. Born in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Narrative and poetic works written in Basque can be submitted for these awards, regardless of the author’s place of residence or nationality. That’s right, the works must be original and never published; moreover, translations or adaptations of other works will not be accepted. The works must be typewritten on one side, on folio or A4 size pages, and three copies must be sent to the Academy’s headquarters in Bilbao (Plaza Barria, 15. 48.005).

On the other hand, again this year, prizes of between 180 and 300 euros will be given, both in narrative and in poetry, and in order to encourage participation, a prize of 500 euros will be given to the school that submits the most students to the competition.

So the invitation is extended. In fact, “we want to encourage young literary creators to participate in this competition, because we are sure that their contribution will greatly benefit our language and culture”, emphasize the organizers. So, don’t make excuses and let your imagination run wild, big prizes are up for grabs!
